For the safety of our residents, pets, children wildlife, and the maintenance of our roads, your vehicles, and homes we ask that you and your guests respect the 15-mph maximum speed limit. It may take a few minutes longer to get to Lapp Rd and home, but that gives you extra time to enjoy the beauty of our community.
A DELIBERATE CHOICE
When Highland Glens was established in 1965 as a recreational community, dirt roads were the natural choice for our lakeside retreat. As we've evolved into a thriving neighborhood of year-round homes, we've maintained this tradition because it aligns with our commitment to environmental stewardship and fiscal responsibility.
Paving our miles of roadway would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars (minimally), dramatically increasing assessments for all.
More importantly, our unpaved roads reduce stormwater runoff and chemical pollutants into our precious lakes, preserve the natural character that drew us here, and reflect the same ecologically conservative approach we take with our water and sewer systems.
Our roads are maintained year-round by dedicated volunteers whose skill, time, and commitment deserve our deepest gratitude.

USE EXTRA CAUTION DURING WINTER MONTHS
Dirt roads present unique winter challenges. Unlike paved roads, our surfaces can become extremely icy and slippery with minimal warning. Ice forms differently on dirt, often creating deceptively hazardous conditions.
Winter road conditions are your responsibility to navigate safely. Highland Glens cannot guarantee ice-free or perfectly maintained roads during winter months. Drive slowly and abide by the 15-mph maximum speed limit for your safety and others.
A resident contracts snow plowing for Highland Glens at an extremely discounted rate throughout the snowy season. Money paid covers insurance, fuel, and truck maintenance only. Damage created by snow and ice is repaired by our road maintenance crew in the spring. Attempting to fix the roads too soon is a waste of resources and community funds.
Salting creates potholes in dirt roads (we do not want more!)
Salt damages our lakes and well water supply
Sand runoff pollutes lake water and harms aquatic ecosystems
Chemicals threaten wildlife and vegetation
Protection of our water systems takes priority over driving convenience
